New voices join the Ad Standards Community Panel

Ad Standards has appointed four new members to its Community Panel, further strengthening the diversity of voices that make decisions on whether advertising meets, or breaches, community standards.

Greg Wallace, Executive Director of Ad Standards, said the new appointments ensure the Community Panel continues to reflect the breadth of contemporary Australian society.

“The Community Panel is at the heart of Australia’s advertising self-regulatory system. Responsible advertising relies on decisions grounded in a clear understanding of current community standards. These new appointments broaden the lived experience represented on the Panel, ensuring the perspectives shaping decisions reflect the diversity and values of today’s Australia.”

The new members come from a variety of age groups, cultural backgrounds and professions, united by a strong connection to community.

The Community Panel is an independent group of everyday Australians responsible for adjudicating complaints made by the public about advertising. The new members join 20 existing Community Panel members who meet regularly to consider complaints and decide whether ads breach the advertising rules.

All Community Panel members are appointed through a national public recruitment process and must be actively engaged in their communities. While they contribute perspectives shaped by their own backgrounds, members do not represent any specific interest group and remain independent of the advertising industry.
